I’m finally getting around to sharing all of our wedding details, and it’s bringing back so many fond memories. I hope you enjoy this series as I turn back the clock and reminisce about one of the most magical (and stressful) times of my life: WEDDING PLANNING!

On April 30th, 2019, we took our engagement photos at the Skylands Manor in Ringwood, New Jersey.

Why We Chose the Skylands Manor

The Skylands Manor offers a fairytale-like landscape for photos and is also one of NJ’s most popular wedding destinations. We absolutely loved walking the grounds, and if you’re looking for that dreamy, scenic, and romantic look for your engagement photos, I know you’ll love it, too. It’s always been on my bucket list to be photographed under cherry blossom trees, and the Skylands Manor was the perfect location to make it happen.

Is April a Good Month to Take Engagement Photos in New Jersey?

Getting our engagement photos taken in April was a risky move. If you’re from New Jersey, you know that the proverb, “April showers bring May flowers”, is actually true of our state. However, we wanted to take our photos at least a few months out from our wedding, so we chose April.

Here’s why I would not recommend getting your engagement photos taken in April, although we really lucked out.

On the morning of our engagement photos, it was POURING rain. We were in touch with our photographer, Sean (whom I highly recommend and has done multiple events for our family), to determine whether or not that day would work. Thankfully, the rain started to lighten by the time we were supposed to begin our 1-hour drive, so we decided to go for it.

By the time we arrived at the manor, the rain was more a drizzle. A few minutes later, it miraculously STOPPED! We let out a sigh of relief, sent a quick high-five to heaven, and went on our merry way.

Turns out that taking photos on a rainy day meant that there would be NO visitors!

We had the entire grounds to ourselves to roam freely and take as many photos as we wanted. It also helped that Sean’s warm, inviting demeanor allowed us to be completely ourselves! Scheduling photos for April isn’t something I’d necessarily recommend especially if you’re taking them in a garden, but it thankfully worked out beautifully for us.
